Essential oils for soul: Weekly scents and remedies, week two

opening heart. uplifting senses.

Now we're on to the second week of my essential oil and yoga talk. I'm calling it a talk because it feels like an experiential event recorded on the internet, then discussed. I'm not an essential oil expert with years of laborious scientific study. I'm a yogini, an ashtangi, a healer, a feeler, an integrative medicine advocate. Essential oils are medicine and I'm their devotee.

I discussed part of my bedtime and morning ritual last week with Cirtus Bliss and Aborvitae. To continue...

doTERRA Whisper™ - Blend for Women (Image © Yoga Robin®)Each morning as I'm getting ready for yoga—right before I walk out the door—a scent or an intuition whispers to me along the ledge under my bathroom mirror where I have many of my oils lined up. It's not a free-for-all or game to see 'Which one should I try today so that I can transpose my current state of reality onto it and then come home and write about it?' (I say that with the utmost sincerity since I did question myself in the first week when my discovering mind wanted to know. That was while I was still questioning the connection between scent and spirit, mind and concoction. It was before I felt the magic.)

That was awhile ago. I have plenty to share now. Actually, I could write over 50 weeks worth of posts right now—all intensively studied, but I want to let life guide me to the one I'll write about next—one which has some life and trials to it, one that I can trust sharing.

authentic voice

I cannot share an essential oil remedy (or a yoga pose, or a life lesson) unless I can speak with authenticy. Otherwise, I'm just sharing what others say, including the maker of the oil blend. This is not my quest. In fact, when I read about a blend, or hear others share their custom blends and effects, I take note but usually have my own unique and intuitive experience.

A favorite—almost essential—daily oil for me is Whisper™. I apply it behind my ears and wrists. It's a blend that brings out the feminine. What does this really mean to me? I am a female. It reminds me to be myself while I'm in the midst of a life-changing, live-saving mindful yoga practice each morning, which has a tendency to be fueled by my masculine side so that I can get through it. To remain in balance, I find Whisper™ to be a valuable invite to my psyche.

It encourages me to let go of my pride and let down my toughness. It brings me a sense of emotional freedom. It unblocks the real me.

hormonal homeostasis

It's a blend of Rose, Jasmine, Patchouli, Bergamot, Hawaiian Sandalwood, Vetiver, Cinnamon Bark, Cistus, Ylang Ylang, Germanium, Labdanum, Cocoa Bean Extract, Vanilla Bean Extract. Sounds good enough to eat, huh?! It smells like it. It's the kind of scent that makes you want to keep inhaling until your eyes are closed. It's great applied topically to the skin and inhaled through a diffuser (not taken orally).

I feel its effect on the hormonal system on a subtle level—the only way the feminine truly heals and comes into homeostasis.

When I first discovered essential oils and tried this blend, I cried. It bought out the feminine in me at a time in my life when I was too stressed to remember that part of me. It was joy to feel. (I was actually cynical at that point about its power. Yet, it happened again and again, alterntively off when I tried other essential oils). I became a believer through experience.

And now, healing its way through who I am, my life and its whisper have healed a part of me. I now use it as a memory for my feminine strength—no more tears because I AM it. It's powerful, grounding and essential. It brings love and magic to the forefront. It's passionate, it's calming. It mixes grounded earthiness with floral scents and sweetness. It's my favorite kind of whisper. I dedicate it to myself in each breath in my ashtanga yoga.
